Holaaaa

Welll...I am in AMATITLAN!!! It is like ciudad y costa!

wooooo. I left the mountains and boy, I am in a whole new world!!! 

Puessss. My new companion is Hermana Ziga. She is from Mexico and she is just the sweetest thing ever! We are already having so much fun. She also speaks english!!! She was sealed in the San Diego temple with her family as a child! Small world. 

Well my area is just lovely! The people are so kind and I am having so much fun. The memebers just come out with us whenever and they are so willing to serve. I love it!!!!!

We have an investigator Juana who is going to get baptized! She has been coming to church a few weeks now and she just wants to clear up some doubts that she has had with the catholic doctrine and ours, but she is suppperrrr pilas and we love her! We are seeing miracles,ya!!!!!!!

We went to walmart yesterday. It was a spiritual experience. I could feel the Spirit and teared up a little. It was HEAVENLY. Oh the wonders of Walmart. For the first time in FOREVER I saw some real food! WOO! The little stores here just dont have what we have in the states. Lond story short, we splurged and bought eggo waffles and we are feeling like the luckiest people in the world. Tender mercies. 

I am learning so much. I am grateful for our Savior. I know He lives. I am grateful for the moments that have brought me to my knees to pled for help and added strength. I know that the Lord is carrying me through this mission and that He loves each one of us. I feel his mercy and love for us. I hope you can feel that Love too.

Make Your Heart Happy

Wow! This week was incredible. Miracle of the week... Of the many...

We taught the mom of our convert, Gary. She wants to get baptized and LOoooooVESS talking. She is the cutest thing ever. We went to visit her for the first time and she told us that she was feeling really sick and sad and that we were there to help in her critical moment. We sang to her and read with her and felt the Spirit with her. God helped her feel better. She has a baptismal date and now she will have an eternal family with Gary!!!! Really God is a God of miracles. He truly loves us. 

SOoooooooo....

Saying goodbye to all of my friends here in San Pedro! We have changes tomorrow! Who knows what will happen.. but I am leaving.  I am gonna have some withdrawls from a few members here in this branch but I am excited to see what comes next. We just keep moving forward with faith and love!!!! 

The rain has started! We walk around with our rain boots ALWAYS because we are walking through rivers, teaching in rivers, contacting in rivers. Looking like wet animals. hahahaha The best is when you are all wet and you go to contact a bus and as you pass down the aisle you just get everyone wet and they just think you are crazy. But they see our smiles and want to know more. That is our message. 

Happy that God loves us and that He has a plan.

Trees

hola!!!!

Wow! This week was incredible. 

We found a family that we have been teaching and this sunday their children came to church! They were super reverent and they said that they loved it! They made some friends and loved going to the classes. They also want to get baptized and their parents are on board. The parents could not come to church with them, but they said that they will the next week! That was for sure such a miracle this week.  My companion and I gave talks in church about missionary work and we got the branch all ready to share the gospel! We love San Pedro. 

Fun stuff this week.

Pday.. we hiked a huge Guatemalan mountain-forest-jungle!!!! It was the most beautiful thing ever! It was a lot harder than we had all anticipated, so our jeans and backpacks ended up getting super muddy, but it was for sure my favorite actividad as a zone. When we got to the top we could see basically all of Guatemala!!!! hahaha. And coming back was just as good. Slipping all over the mud and loving life. Guatemala is my favorite. =)

There were a ton of really huge trees where we were hiking and I thought of the talk by Elder Christensen in the October General Conference... I know these things for my self.

He said... "In most cases our testimonies will grow the same way a tree grows... Gradually, almost imperceptibly, as a result of our constant care and diligent efforts.... 'But if ye will nourish the word,' Alma promised, 'yea nourish the tree as it beginneth to grow, by your faith with great diligence, and with patience, looking forward to the fruit thereof, it shall take root; and behold it shall be a tree springing up unto everlasting life.'" Alma 32:41

I know that our testimonies can grow as we live the gospel consistently and with exact obedience. God loves us and His divine aid is always extended to those who want it. I know He loves you. I know you are important and I love you so much.

Buckets and Showers of Love

We had A MIRACLE the other day. We had an appointment with a family that we had contacted in the street. When we went by for them the wife was the only one home and she told us to come back in 30 minutes. So we decided to seize the moment and explore a little place we had never gone before. We found about 5 doors and we decided to knock them. The first two we knocked, people came out and we started to testify and share with them, but they were cabras. Not like the..slam the door in your face...kind of cabra but the Spirit told me no. So we just invited them to church and continued. We started back for the family, with no success. We passed by a tin door and I asked my companion if we had knocked it yet. We could not remember so we decided that it would be best to try one more time. When we knocked a young woman came out really fast. She accepted us in her house and as we began to talk, we knew that were were in the right place at the right time. She had told us that moments before we knocked she was reading her Bible and all of a sudden got up to go to the door and didn't remember why. When she was there, we were too. She told us that we were an answer to her prayers. She told us that in that very day, a very good family friend had died in another part of Guatemala and she couldn't be there with them or her family. She needed help and was looking for direction from God!! We followed the Spirit and taught the most sacred lesson of the Plan of Salvacion. We cried, she cried, and there was no denying that the Spirit of God was in that room to testify to her that this message of God is true. I have never felt the Spirit so strong in my life! I know that on that day, God was answering both of our prayers and that He loves us. We made a baptism date with her right then and there.

fUN STORY....

one of our investigadores has pollos and she is a cute little old lady. Her chickens escaped and we had a lesson set up with her so we had to catch them before we started. It was HILARIOUS. We were chasing around chickens for 20 minutes. It was our service for the week!!! But we dominated that pollito and caught it! WOOO! Success. 

IT'S RAINING!!! Here, when it rains, it RAINS. POURS. It also makes me so happy and makes me laugh SO HARD. Basically everyone has tin roofs and so when it rains and pours we cannot hear anthing because the rain with the tin just doesn't work too well. So we are teaching a lesson and all of a sudden we are SCREAMING trying to help them hear us. It is so funny and I love it. When It rains I feel like God is just pouring out buckets and showers of love on us! He loves us and I know it.

Fuertes y Valientes

This week was great! We went to the market with Hermana Maria Elena yesterday! We saw some meat. Haha. She is great. She always tells us that we are fuerte y valiente. I love her! She is so willing to serve and never asks for anything in return. She is of the household of faith. 

President told us that we need to take the mirrors our of our lives and put in windows. Because with mirrors, we just see ourselves and our selfish needs...but with windows, we look out and we go out and we serve. I loved that.

Last night we had Noche de Hogar with a family in our branch. We watched y talked about the video...gracias a que el vive. I love that video! Have you seen it? It is really powerful. I know that Jesus lives and that he is here for us in the good, bad, in between moments. He loves us and we can find Him in every moment. 

Sorry that this is short. We are happy and loving the mission. Hermana Alvarado is wonderful. Thank you for your love and prayers.

Conference!

Hola!!!

We had general conference this week! We got to go to Antigua to watch it and it was so great.  We got to see so many people we love and I was bubbling with joy. Gary, our convert, went and he absolutely loved it. He has a lot of questions about whether he should go on a mission or not and he is growing in the gospel so quickly. It is so crazy to think about how much his life has changed just in the month of march till now and we are so happy for him. We want to work with his mom also to help her come unto Christ. She is a single mom and loves us but we want her to love the gospel, too! We know she will. 

 I loved all the talks but one of my favorites was Elder Pearson. I loved how he talked about how we need to hold tight to the iron rod and stay by the tree of life! He also talked directly to missionaries. We need to go home from the mission, different, and not have the same old habits. We need to say goodbye to babylon forever and not just dive right back in. I loved that. 

Hermana Alvarado and I are really doing great. She is so happy and it always makes me happier. I love how much faith she has, and how she is always willing to change and accept new challenges. We are working on diligence.Not just in walking fast to random houses, but we are trying to walk fast to houses that we have felt are prepared to hear the gospel. We have Plan A and Plan B in our agenda and we want the spirit to trust us as we follow those plans, and we know He will put people in our path.

Birthdays, Baptisms, Catholics

Wow. This week was full of absolute miracles. So we have wrote you about Gary and all of his progress. How he was ready to get baptized the 22 of march. We also wrote you about how Gary was having some difficulties and how he told us that he didnt want to get baptized anymore. Hermana Alvarado and I were devastated because we knew that he was ready and that Satan was attacking him, so that he wouldnt be baptized. So we prayed and prayed and had all the faith that somehow God would touch his heart and help him remember why he wanted to get baptized in the first place. 

Our prayers were answered!! We went back a day later and he was SO happy and apologized and told us how much he wanted to get baptized. We had his baptismal interview on my birthday and he passed with flying colors. Best birthday ever!!! Sunday came and he came to church, but not alone. He passed by for three of our investagators and they all came to church with him! It was so overwhelming and we were all SO happy!  But that isnt all! The baptism was at 4 30 pm in Antigua. This week the Catholics had a HUGE prossesion in Antigua so none of the buses were running.

 We were going to have the baptism whether there were buses or not.

 So we walked. From San Pedro, to Antigua. Through processiones. With Gary and an AMAZING woman who is in a wheelchair. And a cake. It was literally a miracle. We were laughing so hard cause it was more crowded than Disneyland and with catholics who are all celebrating semana santa...or holy week.   We walked about 2 hours and we made it to the baptism and it was beautiful. And we walked back smiling so big.

I am so grateful for my Heavenly Father for helping us see this miracle. Gary is happier than ever and Hermana Alvarado and I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to teach someone SO ready to hear the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ. 

I know that we were supposed to be in San Pedro for a reason and I am so greatful for all I am learning.

Elder Anderson

So this week has been CRAzY! We had changes and my companion and I are still together and we are opening the area of the other sisters! They both left and went to Patzicia and we are now the missionaries in this rama. We are sad the other sisters left us but also SO happy because we are together and still in this AMAZING branch. I love it. 

Gary is still doing great. He has been facing some trials, to no suprise, because his baptism is this Sunday! It is crazy how much Satan doesnt want us to succeed, and how he works to make people miserable. We just have to remember that God will never put doubts in our minds. Never! Just clarity. My companion and I have the faith that he will overcome these things and that he will be a pioneer for his family! The first member! We cannot wait for his baptism. 

This week we got to see an Apostle! What a blessing!!! We shook hands with Elder Anderson and we got to learn more about our Savior and The Atonement from him. It was such a special experience. He taught us that we need to preach the gospel with boldness and with love. I learned so much from him. 

Oh and my companion has never made cookies so we made cookies with a Canadian Family that lives in a really nice area!! It was the best ever. 

March 10

Sorry I haven't written! We are doing well and LOVING San Pedro. We have been teaching a man named gary. He is more of a young man. Anyways he is sooo happy and he loves the gospel. He came to church on sunday with a tie and white shirt and he loved it. He has been prepared to hear this message and we love answering his questions and help him progress! He will be baptized the 22 of March! Best gift ever. 

This picture is with our friend, Hermana Choc. She is one of the most beautiful people I have ever met. She is so humble and she loves going out to visit people with us. We have so much fun wheeling her around. Her testimony is one that burns bright and she knows just how to share that light. I love her and her example of the pure love of Christ. I want to be more like her! 

This next week we are going to have changes and also we get to hear from one of the 12 apostles! What a blessing! We cannot wait to hear from Elder Anderson and we are getting prepared to listen to the words and cousel of an apostle of the Lord. 

I am very very happy! 

I know that my Reedemer lives! He loves us and wants us to come unto Him. I am grateful for Him and you.  I love you.

Love What Comes

This week has been crazy! We had a super great week full of success and a Happy Valentines Day. I wanted to celebrate big time so I made all of the girls wear pink and red and purple and then  made breakfast for the girls in the house with the resources that I had. Attatched is a picture of my best effort hahaha. Its the thought that counts! 

So we are having some changes! All of us four sisters are moving out of our area and we are going to open another area... San Pedro! It is not too far and we are excited to start the work over there. It is a big change and it is all at once, but I have found peace in knowing that we are doing what the Lord wants. 

 

This quote has brought me a lot of peace as well.

AMOR!

Hey!!! Happy week of love!!!

     My new companion is Hermana Alvarado. She is from CHILE! She is the nicest and she has been loving the mission so far. We are learning so much from eachother and I am grateful that I get to train her! This week we had a lot of fun finding new people and seeing miracles. Last night we were getting close to the time where we needed to head back home for the night... but we felt like we could look for one more person and teach one more lesson. We felt like someone was waiting for us. So we walked all the way back to where we were before and we looked for a contact that we had in our agenda. When we found the house, the woman who lived there let us in and she introduced us to her husband and baby. They just moved here and dont attend another church but want unity in their family. We taught them a little bit about eternal families and how they can be together forever and they are coming to church this sunday! So we were really happy to say the least. 

     With Valentines day approaching we have been studying charity and love in Preach my Gospel. The most important thing we can do for others is love them like Jesus Christ would, and help them feel that love. We can reach out and love a little more! We can serve others, knowing that they are our brothers and sisters. Through our love and service, we can assist in bringing sheep back into the fold and we can help people know the truth of the gospel. I am grateful for this. I have so much love for my Savior and for all of you.

Hola! How are you all doing! I cant make a question mark on this keyboard so you will just have to guess when I am asking you a question. haha. 

This week has been wonderful, but whats new... 

While we were knocking doors this week, two sweet women let us in to share. One of them is named Sara. She told us that she is a member and that she got baptized in another part of Guatemala and quit coming to church after some bad experiences and people that didnt fall well with her. She has a testimony but it just got lost amongst all the things that have happened. It made me so sad to think that she let go of what she knew was true just because of the acciones de otras personas. We are so glad we found sara and now we can love her and help her feel the Atonement working in her life to help her come back to church.  Hermana Johnson and I talked about how it doesnt matter what happens to us, but it matters how we deal with it. We must have the attitude that Christ had. We must be willing to accept the future and accept His will, no matter what happens in this life. We must have hope to anchor our soul in the times of hardships. Then when the torments of life come, we will have a firm foundation to withstand it and strengthen our testimonies. 

Hermana Johnson is leaving tomorrow to go home! I feel like it was just yesterday that we became companions. She has done such a good work here and I will miss her so much! I love her and so do the people here. 

Tomorrow we have changes and I will be receiving a new missionary to train! I am very excited and cannot wait to meet her! 

Thank you for everything! You know I love you so much. We can do hard things.

Templo

This week was really special!!! Every week I think that things just cannot get better but then they do!

We got to go to the temple to see a convert get sealed to his wife. I cannot explain the joy of that day. Getting to see them get married for time and all eternity in the temple was one of the most special moments of my life. I have never seen anything like it, and we could feel the Spirit SO strong. I am so grateful for forever families. 

Another miracle... yesterday Hermana Johnson and I were out working because we didnt have pday, and we were out eating a quick lunch. We then ran into a man with a suit who asked us if we were missionaries, and we got to talking with him. He then told us that  he is a body guard for people in our church and right across the street were some area 70s and also the President of the church in all of central America, and their counselors, and their families! So of course we ran and found them and took a bunch of pictures and it was lovely. 

And then to top it off, yesterday we were walking and working when someone pulled up in a car next to us and asked us if we wanted a ride. They were American and they were members of the church, so we said yes. As they drove us around the corner we talked about why they are here in antigua and we realized that the woman in the car is related to the Hynecks in the Aliso viejo ward and she makes the Nena and Co bags here in guatemala!!! It was so cool getting to meet her and having that connection! 

Everyone is happy and great here. We are loving life and doing our best to become the best we can be. Everyday we grown in our testimonies of the Lord and we know we can do hard things!

Sunshine!

This week was a really good week. We have been loving teaching our new convert Jackie and her uncle William and their family. They are like our family away from our family and it is so fun learning with them. Jackie got confirmed this sunday and it was really sweet. She told us that the night after her baptism, she was praying and thanking God for all that she had and she felt something touch her hand. Something soft and not too tangible, but we knew that it was the Spirit and she could also feel the love of her father who passed away a year ago! It was really special. 

This week we also saw another miracle. We were contacting in the streets and there was a family that we went and contacted. They started to cry and tell us how we were angels sent to them in time of need. They have had their daughter go missing and just wanted to know what to do and how to be happy. We said a prayer with them and we wrote down their information to help them as best as we could. We passed the address along to the Elders, because they live out of our boundries, and they visited them. They said that they had the best lesson they have had in their whole mission! The family was so ready to learn more and act. We are so happy for this family and we cannot wait to hear more about their progress. 

Fun Stuff...

This week we taught a young boy. He is Justin Bieber but latino! He wore leather pants and had an earing but he loves talking about God. So we are going to keep teaching him with some help from members! 

The little kids here love stickers! So we gave some out that we had lying around the house and they were smiley faces. All the little kids put the smiley stickers on their forehead and event the adults too. So everyone in Guatemala is walking around with smiley stickers on their foreheads from the Sister Missionaries! It is the best. 

This week we are going to the temple to see a convert get sealed to his wife! HAPPY DAY!!

Haircut!

Jackie was baptized!!!!

Ahh. This week was so wonderful. So we get to church on sunday and we see William and Jackie! But something was way different. William was in a suit and tie and he CUT HIS HAIR! He looked like a priesthood holder. He blessed the Sacrament and then he baptized Jackie. I think it was the happiest day of my life. They were so happy and you could feel the love. 

I absolutely love seeing how the gospel brings such light into peoples lives. It is because it is true. 

I love you all!

Feliz ano Nuevo!

Hola!!!

Feliz ano nuevo!!! Can you believe it is 2015? I really can´t! But I am so excited for this year to come. 

We had the best week. I havent written in awhile but Guatemala just loves Christmas and New Years. So we have seen so many fireworks and I feel like I am at Disneyland!! Also, everyone has nativity scenes in their houses. Not just small cute little nativity scenes, but HUGE ones. With lights that could give you a headache in one look! It is so cute! I love them so much. They all wait till Christmas day to put Jesus in the manger. 

So we have the best news ever! Jackie, the niece of our convert William, is going to get baptized! She is soooo soooo awesome! I love her so much. She had us come over to talk to us the other night after church and we were so worried that she wanted to tell us that she didnt want to get baptized and so we were feeling like we were about to get dumped by our investigador. BUT, we had faith and went into that lesson and she totally flipped our world! She told us that she knows that she needs to get baptized and that she just has felt so much peace in the church and talking with us, especially with the loss of her dad a year ago. She wants us to pray that her mom is supportive, but she has decided to get baptized. Hermana J and I were crying tears of joy. And William just got the priesthood so he is going to baptize her. Ahh, it makes my heart so happy. We love that family.

Christmas Miracle

Hola!!! 

Fun week!!! We are all really into the Christmas Spirit. We had our mission christmas activity and also our ward Christmas activity and they both were so fun and happy!! We got to see people act out the nativity. My favorite was when the little Guatemalan ninos acted out the nativity in our ward. It was beautiful!! I love this time of year so much. There is just such a strong Spirit of Christ and I feel His love even more! 

We had a Christmas miracle!!! We found a family. And you will never guess what their names are.... 

Jose y Maria.... or in English.... Joseph and Mary. Just in time for Christmas, right? 

They are so positive and are super interested in the church because they have members in their family who are members of the church. They are so nice and always have so many questions! They have been such a Christmas miracle!! 

We have also been helping this family that is less active. They have had some really hard trials lately and we have been visiting them and trying to animate them to come to church! Slowly we have seem them turn their life around and this sunday we got to see all of them in the Church, with the biggest smiles on their faces. We visited them later during the week and Hna Johnson and I both agreed that their countenances have changed. They are so much more united as a family... and are so happy. And we know it is because they are living up to their covenants that they made at baptism and they are being blessed. 

I love the gospel of Jesus Christ. I love that the Savior came to the world for us. For each of us. Because He loves us.

"The Church is TRUE!"

This week was great! We are all ready for christmas and we have our house all decorated! We recieved a new sister in our house! Her name is Hermana Macias and she is from Ecuador. She is SO cool. We love her! 

William is doing great and we have so much fun making plans for him to be the bishop one day. He is soooo pilas! He is already doing his family history and he invited his neice to come to church also! We have been teaching her and she has been really positive. Her name is Jacqueline and she is 19! We have also been teaching this girl named Jeni! She is so cute and she was invited to church by one of our recent converts. Last night she told us that she believes that the church is true and she wants to get baptized! We are SO happy for her and her decision. It has been such a blessing getting to teach them!  I know it is the best decision of their lives!!! The Church is TRUE! 

Fun things... 

We get to skype on christmas!!! Yay!!

They dont celebrate Christmas on the 25th! They all stay up until 12pm on the 24th and they all light of fireworks!

Sorry nothing too crazy this week. Life has been great and we are happy and working hard. I love you all and pray for you.

He is the Gift!

Sorry I have been slacking on the emails! 

So much has been going on!! William got BAPTIZED! He is so cool. He has such a strong testimony of the gospel and he is going to be such a great ward member. We are so proud of him. 

This week we have been able to share is really great video. It is called He is the gift. It is really short, and simple.. but also is so beautiful. We have been able to share this with people and remind them of what we need to remember during this christmas season...which is Christ! He is the best gift we could ever have been given! I love this video so much! Go watch it!!

 We get to teach so many wonderful people here in Antigua and I am so grateful to be here.

It is amazing how the gospel can help us and make us so much better than we are. It is the coolest thing realizing how weak we are and how we can be made stronger through Christ and His Atonement. Through Him and through living the gospel everyday, we can be better people. We can be better friends,daughters,sons,citizens,mothers,fathers,spouses, missionaries...ext. Through the gospel we can reach our full potential! We just have to accept the will of God and ACT! I love it!!!

Some fun things...

This week while contacting a bus I started to laugh and I could not stop! Then the whole bus started to laugh and then everyone was laughing and we all looked like crazy people which made us laugh even more. The good news is, we got some addresses from it and we are gonna go visit those people! 

We arent havent changes so Hermana Johnson and I will be toghther until February when she finishes her mission!

Turkey Week

This week was great! Jaimie got confirmed and she is so pilas! She has been reading in her Book of Mormon and is loving it! She is the best and I love her so much! 

This weekend William is getting baptized too! He went to Jaimies baptism and asked us where he could get his white baptismal clothes so he could be baptized! He is such a great example of someone is is chosen to hear the gospel message and who is willing to do Gods will! i love it. Hermana Johnson and I talked about how much he has changed in these last couple of weeks and how cool it is to see the change and happiness the gospel can bring into peoples lives.  He has been a miracle! 

This week we are having a bonfire activity and we are so excited!! We are gonna teach the Guatemalans how to make smores!!
